A prospective, open-label, single-arm phase 2 trial conducted at two institutions in Japan (the ROBOCOLO trial) evaluated the safety of robotic-assisted surgery for resectable, stage I-III right-sided colon cancer. Between August 2021 and February 2023, 42 patients were enrolled; 39 were included in the full analysis after 3 exclusions. The trial’s primary endpoint — the postoperative complication rate within 30 days of surgery — supported the safety of the robotic approach in this population, published in the Annals of Gastroenterological Surgery (DOI 10.1002/ags3.12718). This is a single-arm feasibility/safety trial, not a randomized comparison against conventional laparoscopic or open surgery, and this record makes no claim that robotic surgery produces better cancer outcomes (survival, recurrence) than those alternatives — that would require a larger, randomized, longer-follow-up trial.
