Breast cancer survivor Lori Bayer transformed her personal battle into a mission to support others facing similar challenges by founding Swing for the Lowcountry, affectionately known as “The Swing.” Established in 2018, this annual event unites women of all ages for a day of golf, tennis, and pickleball at the Daniel Island Club, aiming to raise funds for local breast cancer patients. The initiative has grown into a cherished community gathering, fostering camaraderie and providing essential financial assistance to those affected by the disease.
The Swing’s impact is substantial, with 90 to 92 cents of every dollar raised directly supporting breast cancer patients. In 2023, the event raised over $300,000, enabling donations such as $100,000 to the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center to aid patients in need. Beyond fundraising, The Swing offers a supportive community for survivors and those currently battling breast cancer, alleviating financial burdens so they can focus on recovery.
