A Daily Glass of Milk Could Cut Colorectal Cancer Risk, Study Finds

Recent research indicates that incorporating a daily glass of milk into one’s diet may significantly reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. A study published in Nature Communications in January 2025 analyzed data from over 542,000 women and found that consuming approximately 300 milligrams of calcium daily—equivalent to one glass of milk—was associated with a 17% lower risk of developing colorectal cancer. The protective effect is attributed to calcium’s ability to bind bile acids and free fatty acids in the colon, reducing their potential carcinogenic impact.

Conversely, the study highlighted that certain dietary habits could increase colorectal cancer risk. For instance, consuming an additional 20 grams of alcohol daily (about one large glass of wine) was linked to a 15% higher risk, while an extra 30 grams of red and processed meat per day correlated with an 8% increased risk. These findings underscore the importance of dietary choices in cancer prevention. Incorporating calcium-rich foods like milk, alongside reducing intake of alcohol and processed meats, may serve as a practical strategy to lower colorectal cancer risk. Click for More Details
