New research has revealed that men who avoid prostate cancer screening face significantly worse health outcomes compared to those who undergo regular testing. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, and early detection through prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing or digital rectal exams can be life-saving. However, some men choose to forgo screening due to fears of overdiagnosis, unnecessary biopsies, or concerns about treatment side effects. The study found that men who delayed or skipped screening were more likely to be diagnosed at later stages of the disease, when treatment options are more limited and survival rates decrease. In contrast, those who participated in routine screening had a much higher chance of detecting cancer early, leading to less aggressive treatments and better long-term outcomes.
